Create Exercises

To create an exercise:

  1. Click the Library button and then the Exercises entry.

  2. To create a new exercise, click the CREATE EXERCISE button.

  3. Select the desired exercise type. In this example, we’ll create a multiple-choice question.

Each exercise type comes with a predefined template that you just need to fill in.

To enter content for an exercise:

  1. Enter a name for the exercise in the Title field.

Consider a consistent naming scheme for your exercises

In this example, the name of the content unit where the exercise appears comes first. 01 refers to the first section in this unit, and 02 indicates it’s the second exercise in that section.

  2. Type your question or task in the Question / Task Description field.

  3. By default, the template includes two answer fields that you must fill in.

  4. Click ADD ENTRY if you want to add more answer options.

  5. Check the box next to the correct answer.

    Note

The order of answer options is randomized when learners complete the exercise.

  6. In the Points field, specify how many points should be awarded for a correct answer.

  7. Click CREATE.

  8. Click PUBLISH so the exercise can be assigned to a content unit.

    Note

You can reopen and edit any existing exercise at any time. In that case, you’ll need to re-publish the exercise for changes to take effect.

Each exercise template shows what is required or missing.

If something is missing, it will be marked with a red X. In the example below, two entries and the correct answer are still missing.

Once all required entries are added, the red X is replaced with a green checkmark.

Setting the correct answer also removes the last red X.

Important

If required elements are missing, a warning will appear after clicking CREATE, and publishing will not be possible.

You can only publish the exercise once all required entries and settings are complete.

Several exercise types are available. Each type comes with a template that you simply fill out.

A typical single-choice question includes a prompt and several answer options. Learners must identify and select one correct answer.

Here, learners must identify and select all correct answers from the provided options.

Note

If your exercise has only one correct answer, use the Single Choice type. The correct answer is marked using a circular button.

For exercises with multiple correct answers, checkboxes are used to select the correct options.

This exercise type allows you to provide documents or files in a ZIP archive. Learners download, complete them, and optionally upload their results for review or support.

Learners match terms using a tabular layout by selecting checkboxes for correct pairings.

Learners match terms to definitions by drawing lines between them.

You create a fill-in-the-blank text. Learners must fill in the blanks with the correct terms you define.

Perfect for tasks requiring learners to arrange steps in the correct order by dragging and dropping entries.

Upload an image and define a hotspot learners must click.

Upload an image and define terms learners must place in the correct positions.

Exercises are assigned to content units. It doesn’t matter whether the unit already contains content.

To assign an exercise to a section of a content unit:

  1. Open the content unit.

  2. Click Create Exercise Phase under the learning section.

  3. The exercise phase is created. Click Exercise Phase to open it.

  4. Click the ASSIGN EXERCISE button.

  5. Check the box for the exercise you want to assign.

  6. Click SAVE.

  7. All assigned exercises will be displayed.

Adding exercises counts as editing the content unit. You must publish the content unit for the changes to take effect.
